CS2 guides

How to do the things teams do between matches: get your demos, set up practice, run a scrim, build a playbook and review it all together.

  • How to watch CS2 demos

You can watch a CS2 demo in the game, from the Watch tab or with the playdemo command, or in 2D in your browser. The game shows the round through one player's eyes. A 2D viewer shows all ten players on the radar at once, which is quicker for review.

  • How to download your CS2 demos

Premier and competitive demos download from the Watch tab in CS2. FACEIT demos download from the match room on FACEIT. Neither is kept for long, so get them soon after you play, or let Subtick fetch them for you.

  • CS2 practice config: the commands you need

A practice config is a list of console commands that turns a normal CS2 match into a practice server: infinite ammo, a grenade trajectory preview, buy anywhere, no freeze time and no warmup. Start a local server, run the commands, and you can throw the same smoke a hundred times.

  • How to review CS2 demos as a team

Good team review is short and specific. Pick one demo, go round by round through the moments that decided each one, and leave with two or three things to fix at the next practice. Watch the whole team at once in 2D, and only switch to one player's view when you need it.

  • How to build a CS2 playbook

A playbook is your team's plays, written down so everyone knows the call. Keep one book per map, sort the plays by the round they are for, give every player a job in each one, and name them so the IGL can call them in two words.

  • How to record TeamSpeak comms for CS2 review

To review comms you need two things: a recording of the channel and a way to line it up with the demo. The simple way is one player recording the channel on their PC. The better way gives every player their own track and syncs it to the round, which is what Subtick Recorder does.

  • How to find your CS2 authentication code and match sharing code

Both codes come from Steam. The game authentication code lets an app read your CS2 match history, and a match sharing code points to one match. Give an app both, and it can find each new match you play and fetch its demo.

  • How to run a CS2 scrim

A scrim runs like a match: both teams join one server, warm up, knife for sides, play MR12 and record it for review. Agree on the details first, so nobody argues about overtime in round 24.

  • How to practise prefires in CS2

A prefire is a shot at a common angle just before you see the enemy there, so the bullet lands as he appears. You get good at it by learning where people stand on each map and clearing those spots in the same order, again and again, until your crosshair goes there without thinking.
