How to record TeamSpeak comms for CS2 review

To review comms you need two things: a recording of the channel and a way to line it up with the demo. The simple way is one player recording the channel on their PC. The better way gives every player their own track and syncs it to the round, which is what Subtick Recorder does.

Ask first

Tell the team before you record, and agree on who can hear the recordings. Only record people who have said yes.

The simple way: record the channel yourself

One player records the TeamSpeak audio on their PC while you play. You get one track with everyone mixed together, and you line it up with the demo by hand: find a clear call, like a kill call, and match it to the kill in the replay.

It works, but everyone talks over each other on one track, and you have to sync it again for every demo.

With Subtick Recorder

Only linked players are recorded. Anyone else in the channel is not.

  • Invite Subtick Recorder to your team's TeamSpeak channel. A team can use up to five channels.
  • Each player links once by typing !link with a code from the Subtick site.
  • Play. The recorder starts by itself when two linked teammates are in the channel, and posts a notice when it starts. Linked players can also start and stop it with !rec and !stop.
  • Open the demo on Subtick. The comms play in time with the 2D round, one track per player.

How it lines up with the demo

On a scrim played on a Subtick server, the server writes clock markers into the match, so the comms line up exactly. For other demos, Subtick uses a recording start time pasted into the game chat if there is one, and otherwise matches when people start talking to when the kills happen.

If it is still a beat off, nudge it by up to two minutes either way.

Using it in review

Solo the IGL and hear the call before the execute. Solo the player who died first and hear whether he asked for the trade. Mute anyone when two people talk at once.

Only your team can hear the recordings. One session can last up to six hours. Recordings that never match a demo, or that you unlink, are deleted after three months.

Questions

Can I record Discord comms for review?

Not with Subtick Recorder, which joins TeamSpeak only. For Discord you record the call yourself and line it up with the demo by hand.

Do I have to start the recording before every match?

Not with Subtick Recorder. It starts when two linked teammates are in the channel. Linked players can also use !rec and !stop.

How do I sync comms with a CS2 demo?

By hand, you match a call to the kill it was about. Subtick does it for you: exactly on scrims played on its servers, and from a start time in the game chat or the timing of speech and kills on other demos.

Who can listen to the recordings?

On Subtick, only members of the team whose recorder captured them.
